Here is glimpse of our week this week:
Writing: We are using Dr.Seuss' "What Pet Can We Get?" as inspiration for an opinion letter. Each student will write me a letter convincing me of which pet would make the best class pet for us to have.
Grammar: We are using adjectives and adverbs to expand sentences. We are also taking a look at compound sentences and adding conjunctions (and, or, but) to our sentences to expand and compare two sentences.
Math: We are focusing on regrouping and decomposing 3-digit number sentences. (New terminology for "borrowing"). For example 534-178 you would need to decompose 100 and add it to 30 to make 130-70. Then you would need to decompose a ten making it 120-70 ad 14-8. So (400-100) + (120-70) + (14-8) = 100+50+6=156
Reading: We are taking a familiar fictional text and comparing and contrasting it with non-fiction texts. For example we will focus on the story elements of Little Red Ridding Hood and compare and contrast it with a non-fiction texts on wolves.
Spelling- We are focusing on contractions this week. Our spelling words are: she's, it's, you're, weren't, won't, didn't, you've, they've, we've
High Frequency words are....
