It was so good seeing many of you at Open House! I hope I was able to answer many of your questions and I am happy to answer any you still have. This Wednesday, August 30th, will be an early release day. Dismissal will be 2 hours earlier than usual at 12:30 . Click www.cobbk12.org/aboutccsd/calendars/event.aspx?ID=75 for more details.
Our week looks like this:
Writing: We will draft the middle and ending of our personal narratives. In our middle we will discuss the things that get in our way or stop the character from getting what he or she wants or from solving their problem. The ending will focus on solving the problem or getting what the character wanted.
Reading: We are still exploring story structure and will take our assessment mid-week. We will then move into clues the illustrations of a text offer the reader and how illustrations help answer questions about the text.
Math- We are still investigating place value and are beginning to explore expanded form. For example 243= 200+40+3, separating out the hundreds, tens, and ones. We are also going to begin word problems this week starting with addition "result unknown" and "part unknown" This means that either the answer is what the student is trying to solve or the first part of the problem and the result are given, but the 2nd addend is what the student is trying to solve. You can click on this link for a great sample lesson of teaching "result unknown problem" https://betterlesson.com/lesson/594016/change-unknown-word-problems and if you would like extra practice at home there are tons of free (or for a small fee) worksheets online, just google image search for "2nd grade result unknown word problems" and there will be an abundance!
Phonics: We are practicing the CVCe pattern this week (or the magic "e" as I like to call it). We are focusing on how "sneaky e" makes the vowels long. Here are our spelling words for the week: crate, stroke, glide, reptile, naptime, mistake
High frequency words: another, don’t, kind, put, saw, sound
Content: We are finally getting to Georgia Regions this week, we are a little behind in content, but are making headway. Please see last week's blog for the specific regions and areas we will be identifying and learning about!
