I do apologize for the late post, my only excuse being I've been a little under the weather this week. Back to school means back to germs too sadly!
Here is an update and glimpse into our week:
Writing: This week we have focused on how good writers write stories from their hearts. We have thought of great ideas to write about, by thinking of the things that mean the most to us. This will set us up for next week as we continue our writing launch unit and setting up good writing routines within the classroom.
Reading: We are continuing to examine what good readers do as they read: asking questions, making predictions, rereading, picking out "just right" books, and finding books that are interesting to us.
Math: This week we have reviewed skip counting by 5s, 10s, and 100s. We are noticing the patterns of what his happening in each of the place values: ones, tens, and hundreds.
Phonics: We are reviewing beginning and ending consonant digraphs. We are focusing on how two consonants can come together to make a digraph or "new sound". Examples are ch, sh, ck, th, ng, st, sk, etc.
Grammar- We are reviewing nouns: person, place, or thing. This is going to set us up for next week as we get into what nouns need a capital letter: proper nouns.
Content- We have begun talking about the rotation of the sun and moon to set us up for the solar eclipse happening August 21st. We also talked about seasonal changes and are planning to go observe a tree (which will be a year long observation process) once the rain stops and weather permits. We will observe the seasonal changes that accompany the trees changes throughout the year.
Our specials schedule has changed. We now have the following:
Wednesday- PE (please send your child in tennis shoes or sneakers this day)
Fridays- BLOCK SPECIALS (this varies each week, so please send your child to school on Fridays with PE appropriate shoes in case they have PE)
Just a reminder August 21st is a big day for two reasons: The Solar Eclipse meaning late dismissal at 3:25, an hour later than usual. In addition, OPEN HOUSE is also that night time TBA.
Mrs. Bosworth, our music teacher has also asked us to support the following KSE fundraiser and it is fun one! Come support our school and Melody Makers at SunTrust Park.
